Functional Testing
Testing with purpose, not for the sake of it
Functional testing can help us look more deeply at areas such as gut health, nutrient status, hormones, genetics and metabolic health. However, more testing is not always better. I recommend investigations only when they are likely to answer a useful clinical question and influence your personalised plan.

-
The foundation of personalised healthcare.
Comprehensive blood testing is often the best place to start. It helps us assess nutrient status, thyroid function, blood sugar balance, inflammation, liver and kidney function, cholesterol, iron levels and much more. These results often answer many of our questions and help determine whether further testing would be beneficial.
-
Looking beyond standard cholesterol tests.
This assessment provides a deeper understanding of your cardiovascular and metabolic health by looking at markers linked to inflammation, insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk. It's particularly useful for prevention, identifying early metabolic changes and helping guide long-term health strategies.
-
Investigating bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.
SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) can contribute to symptoms such as bloating, excessive gas, abdominal discomfort and altered bowel habits. This breath test measures the gases produced by bacteria in the small intestine, helping us determine whether SIBO may be playing a role in your symptoms when interpreted alongside your clinical history.
-
A detailed assessment of digestive and gut health.
The GI360 analyses your gut microbiome, digestive function, inflammation and immune activity to help us understand how your gut may be influencing your health. It can identify patterns that may contribute to ongoing digestive symptoms and provides valuable information to guide a personalised treatment plan.
-
Investigating persistent or recurrent infections.
For some clients, targeted microbiology testing can help identify organisms that may be contributing to persistent symptoms or recurrent infections. Depending on your clinical history, I may recommend specialist testing to investigate areas such as the urinary tract, vaginal microbiome, sinuses or other sites where chronic or recurrent infection is suspected.
-
Looking at how your body functions at a cellular level.
These advanced assessments explore how efficiently your body is producing energy, using nutrients and managing oxidative stress at a cellular level. Depending on your symptoms and clinical needs, I may recommend either Metabolomix+ or NutrEval® to identify nutritional imbalances and help create a highly personalised nutrition and supplement plan.
-
Your genetic blueprint for personalised nutrition.
Your genes don't determine your future, but they can help explain how your body responds to different foods, nutrients and lifestyle factors. This one-off test allows us to personalise nutrition and lifestyle recommendations based on your unique genetic profile.
-
A comprehensive assessment of hormone health and the body's stress response.
The DUTCH test measures sex hormones alongside cortisol and its metabolites, providing insight into hormone balance and how your body responds to stress throughout the day. It can help us investigate hormonal symptoms while building a clearer picture of your overall health.
Not sure where to begin? You don't need to decide which tests you need. We'll discuss your symptoms first and decide together whether testing is appropriate.
